Space Tomatoes Ripen On Tiangong.

As China celebrates the Year of the Horse this February, the crew of the Shenzhou-21 mission has reported a successful harvest in their space vegetable garden aboard the Tiangong Space Station. Using an aeroponic cultivation system which mists nutrients directly onto roots rather than using soil taikonaut Zhang Hongzhang showcased thriving tomato plants. This system uses a specialized LED light spectrum to maximize energy efficiency in microgravity. These experiments are critical for long-duration missions. The data gathered on plant growth and atmospheric regeneration will inform future plans for the station to grow wheat, carrots, and medicinal herbs. The crew noted that the vibrant splash of green provides a significant mental health benefit during their six-month stay in the Heavenly Palace.
