High-Speed Rail Surpasses 45,000 Kilometers.

China’s high-speed rail (HSR) network continues its rapid expansion, officially crossing the 45,000-kilometer mark this month. The network is now focusing on intelligent upgrades to bridge the gap between urban centers and rural provinces. Testing is currently underway for the CR450 electric multiple unit, which aims to push standard operating speeds beyond 350 km/h, having already hit test speeds of 453 km/h. Recent completions include cross-sea bridges using ballastless-track technology, allowing high-speed travel over bodies of water without the traditional bed of stones, reducing maintenance and increasing stability. The network is increasingly integrated with the BeiDou satellite navigation system, providing real-time weather and track monitoring to minimize delays across the world’s most extensive rail system.
