The 2026 Spring Festival travel rush (Chunyun) officially began February 2 and transport authorities are projecting a staggering 9.5 billion inter-regional trips over the next 40 days. This would be a 5% increase over 2025, driven by a surge in high-speed rail capacity and the rising popularity of New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) for road trips. To accommodate the volume, the state railway has added over 1,000 overnight services.
