The End of the Flush Handle.
In a major shift for the automotive industry, the Chinese government has announced a ban on hidden or flush-mounted electronic car door handles, effective for all new models sold in the country starting in 2027. The move follows several high-profile incidents where electronic handles failed to pop out after collisions or battery failures, trapping occupants inside or preventing rescuers from reaching them. New regulations will require all vehicles to have external door handles that can be operated mechanically from the outside without a power source. While popularized by Tesla and adopted by many Chinese EV makers for aerodynamics, this rule makes China the first nation to mandate a return to traditional handle designs for safety reasons.
