USMCA Review Talks Officially Launch.
Formal negotiations for the 2026 review of the USMCA (the trade agreement between the U.S., Mexico, and Canada) have officially kicked off. President Sheinbaum has emphasized a strategy of "digital economy" and reducing dependence on regions outside of North America. Key points of contention in the early talks include tariffs on steel and aluminum, as well as Mexico's recent labor overhauls, such as the move toward a 40-hour workweek. The outcome of these talks is seen as critical for the Mexican peso, which has shown resilience but remains sensitive to trade rhetoric.
