Monarch Butterfly Rebound.
In a rare piece of positive environmental news, the Monarch butterfly population in Mexico’s wintering forests saw a 64% increase this season compared to last year. While conservationists warn that the overall numbers are still well below historical averages due to climate change and habitat loss, the rebound is a hopeful sign. Simultaneously, the country is grappling with an early record-breaking heat wave as spring arrives, with 12 states reporting temperatures exceeding 40°C (104°F) this weekend, straining the national power grid ahead of the summer months.
