Security Surge Following CARTEL Death.
Mexico is experiencing a significant security shift following the death of Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, the founder of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). After being fatally shot by military forces in late February, his burial in early March was followed by a wave of retaliatory violence and blockades, particularly in Jalisco. While President Claudia Sheinbaum has noted a gradual return to "normalcy" in recent days, the U.S. Embassy maintains shelter-in-place warnings for certain regions as authorities monitor for a potential power vacuum or fragmentation within the cartel.
