The Head-Butting Dinosaur Discovery.

Just last week (January 12, 2026), paleontologists from Mexico and the U.S. announced a fascinating new species of dinosaur discovered in the deserts of Coahuila. Named Xenovenator espinosai, this 73-million-year-old "bird-like" dinosaur had a bizarrely thick, domed skull. Researchers believe it evolved this reinforced skull specifically for high-speed head-butting combat with its rivals—essentially making it the prehistoric equivalent of a bighorn sheep. It’s the first time this "dome-headed" trait has been seen in this specific family of dinosaurs.
