Controversy Over Climate Spending.
A recent review of Mexico’s 2026 fiscal budget has sparked debate among environmental groups. While the government officially earmarked billions for a clean energy transition, an analysis by the Mexican Center for Environmental Law (CEMDA) suggests a significant portion of these funds is actually being directed toward state-owned oil infrastructure and diesel-powered railway projects. Funding for the state-owned oil company, Pemex, remains nearly triple the amount allocated for climate change mitigation, leading to accusations that the government is inflating its green credentials while prioritizing fossil fuels.
