Outbreak of New World Screwworm.

A serious health advisory was issued by the CDC and Mexican health authorities following an outbreak of the New World screwworm (a parasitic pest) in the state of Tamaulipas. As of yesterday, Mexico has reported 24 hospitalizations among people and over 600 active cases in animals. The pest, which lays eggs in open wounds, has been spreading northward through Central America. Authorities are now on high alert due to its proximity to the U.S. border, implementing strict monitoring of livestock movements to prevent further spread into Texas.
