National Forestry Program Is Net-Zero.
The National Forestry Commission (CONAFOR) recently finalized the 2026 operational rules for its Sustainable Forestry Development for Wellbeing Program. This ambitious policy roadmap aims for net-zero deforestation by 2030. The program focuses on community forest management and provides federal funding directly to Indigenous and Afro-Mexican communities to protect ecosystems. It specifically targets the restoration of Mexico's diverse landscapes, which currently cover about 70% of the national territory, including xeric shrublands and tropical forests.
