Mars Technology Tracks Mexico’s Water Crisis.
In a fascinating crossover of high-tech and public utility, specialized space technology originally designed to find water on Mars is now being deployed under the streets of Mexican cities. Mexico’s aging infrastructure loses a significant percentage of its water to underground leaks. By using satellite-based sensors and ground-penetrating tech, engineers are now able to pinpoint silent leaks without digging up entire neighborhoods. With major reservoirs hitting record lows this February, the government is betting on this out of this world data to secure the water supply for the 2026 dry season.
