Major Zapotec Discovery In The Oaxaca Valley.
Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) announced the discovery of a Zapotec tomb dating back to 600 CE. Located in the Oaxaca Valley, this find is being hailed as one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the last decade. The tomb features remarkably preserved mural paintings in vibrant ochre, green, and blue, depicting a procession of figures carrying ritual offerings. Carvings on the entrance lintels show calendrical names and guardian figures, providing rare insights into the social hierarchy and funerary rituals of the Zapotec civilization long before European arrival. INAH is currently performing ceramic and epigraphic analysis to further decode the symbols found within the burial chamber.
