Jalisco Launches Mexico’s First Mariachi Degree.

Starting today, January 19, 2026, Jalisco has officially become the first state in Mexico to offer a professional degree in Mariachi Music. While Mariachi has been the heartbeat of Mexican culture for centuries, this new program aims to preserve the tradition through formal academic study—covering everything from complex arrangements to the history of the traje de charro. It’s a huge win for musicians who have spent their lives playing by ear and now have a path to professional accreditation in their craft.
