Bosque De Agua Conservation Initiative.
Mexican federal and state authorities have intensified a massive restoration project for the Bosque de Agua (Water Forest). This strategic ecological region spans the high-altitude forests between Mexico City, Morelos, and the State of Mexico. The forest is a natural hydrological system that replenishes the aquifers supplying nearly 70% of the water consumed in the capital. Authorities have successfully dismantled several clandestine sawmills and cleared over 1,400 meters of firebreaks to prepare for the 2026 dry season. This project is part of a broader 2026-2030 National Forestry Program aiming for net-zero deforestation and the protection of Indigenous territories that manage these wooded lands.
