13% Minimum Wage Increase Takes Effect.

In a move aimed at addressing social inequality and the rising cost of living, a major wage hike officially went into effect this month. Effective January 1, 2026, Mexico’s daily minimum wage increased by 13%. The general minimum wage is now MXN $315.04 per day. In the Free Zone of the Northern Border, it has reached MXN $440.87. The Sheinbaum administration and the National Commission on Minimum Wages (CONASAMI) stated that the increase is a "reflection of Mexico's continuing commitment to bridging the income gap" and improving the standard of living for rural and urban workers alike.
