Sweden Launches First NATO Air Patrol Mission.

Marking a major milestone since joining the alliance in 2024, the Swedish Air Force has officially launched its first lead NATO air patrol mission. Operating from Keflavik Air Base in Iceland, Swedish Gripen fighter jets are now conducting surveillance and interception drills over the North Atlantic. Major General Jonas Wikman noted that while Sweden has prepared for 98 years to defend its own territory, integrating into NATO's collective defense is a necessary evolution due to the increasingly challenging security environment in the High North.
