Samsung’s Billion All-In AI Bet.
In a move to reclaim its dominance in the global semiconductor market, Samsung Electronics announced at its annual general meeting this week that it will invest $73 billion (₩110 trillion) in AI chip development throughout 2026. The investment is aimed at overtaking rival SK Hynix in the production of High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM), the specialized chips required for NVIDIA’s AI processors.Samsung confirmed it has secured a major deal to supply its next-generation HBM4 chips to AMD and will manufacture Groq 3 processors using its advanced 4-nanometer technology. This massive expenditure represents more than half of the company’s projected operating profit for the year.
