Deadly Fire At Daejeon Auto Parts Factory.

A tragic explosion and fire broke out Friday afternoon at an automotive parts factory in Daejeon, operated by Anjun Industrial (a supplier for Hyundai and Kia). As of this morning, rescue workers have recovered the remains of 14 victims. Firefighters were initially blocked from entering the steel-framed building due to structural collapse risks and the presence of over 200kg of highly reactive chemicals (including sodium) that explode when they touch water. Emergency teams deployed unmanned firefighting robots and a robot dog to scout dangerous areas of the wreckage. President Lee Jae-myung visited the site today to meet with grieving families and call for a total overhaul of industrial safety standards.
