Transport Strike Strands Commuters.
A massive two-day nationwide transportation strike concluded on Friday, leaving thousands of commuters stranded across Metro Manila and other urban hubs. Transport groups, including jeepney and UV Express drivers, organized the protest to demand government action on soaring fuel costs, which have seen an 11-week climbing streak. To mitigate the impact, some local governments, including the City of Manila, have stepped in to fund free jeepney rides for residents, while the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is working to expedite cash relief for public utility vehicle (PUV) drivers.
