Natural Disaster Kona Low Hammers the Islands.
A powerful and rare Kona low weather system is currently battering the Hawaiian Islands, prompting Governor Josh Green to declare a state of emergency. Over 130,000 customers have lost power across the state. Maui has been hit hardest, with some areas receiving more than 20 inches of rain in 24 hours, leading to landslides, sinkholes, and the collapse of coastal roads. National Guard resources have been activated for floodwater rescues. All public schools and state offices on Oʻahu, Kauaʻi, and in Maui County remained shuttered today as officials warn that the worst flooding may still be ahead.
