A Shift In Hawaii Tourism.
A major shift in Hawaii’s tourism and environmental policy officially took full effect this year. The state increased the Transient Accommodations Tax to fund climate resilience. Visitors may now see a total tax of nearly 19% on their hotel bills in some counties. At the legislative level, the state is also grappling with a slow-moving water crisis and a phased increase of the minimum wage, which rose to $16.00 per hour this year as part of a plan to reach $18.00 by 2028.
