Kīlauea Eruption Pauses After Record Activity.
Following a dramatic fountaining episode on March 10 that sent lava 1,300 feet into the air, the eruption at Kīlauea’s summit is currently on pause. The recent activity, labeled Episode 43, produced significant amounts of tephra that blanketed nearby communities and reached as far as Hilo. Geologists at the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory are monitoring signs of inflation, suggesting that another fountaining episode could begin between late March and early April.
