Thessaloniki Opens Archaeological Driverless Metro.

After nearly 20 years of construction and the excavation of over 300,000 artifacts, the city of Thessaloniki has fully operationalized its first metro line. The system is one of the most advanced in Europe, featuring fully automated, driverless trains. What makes the project unique is its integration of history; several stations now serve as mini-museums, displaying ancient Byzantine and Roman treasures uncovered during the digging process. Supported by over €1 billion in EU funding, the 13-station line is expected to transport 20,000 passengers per hour, significantly reducing the city's notorious traffic congestion.
