EU Greenlights €400 Million for Greek "Clean Tech.”
On March 7, 2026, the European Commission approved a massive €400 million state aid package to accelerate Greece’s transition into a regional hub for green energy and strategic materials. The funding targets the production of zero-emission technologies, including batteries, solar panels, and wind turbines. It also supports the recovery of critical raw materials like gallium and bauxite, which are essential for digital and green hardware. Simultaneously, the European Investment Bank (EIB) announced a €30 million investment specifically for Thessaloniki to fund its "Climate Neutrality Plan 2030," which includes energy upgrades for municipal buildings and sustainable urban mobility. A national program to subsidize green heating for 100,000 homes is nearing its June 2026 completion, aiming to reach a target of 52.6% renewable heating across the country by 2030.
