Eco-Mooring System Protecting Porto Rafti.
A new environmental project in Greece is testing eco-friendly mooring systems designed to protect sensitive marine ecosystems. The initiative is taking place near Porto Rafti, a popular harbor close to Athens. Traditional boat anchors can damage Posidonia seagrass, an underwater plant that provides habitat for marine life and helps store carbon. The new mooring system allows boats to attach to fixed points instead of dropping anchors onto the seabed. Environmental experts say protecting these seagrass meadows is essential for maintaining biodiversity and improving water quality in the Mediterranean. If the project proves successful, similar systems could be installed in other popular Greek coastal areas.
