UN Declares Slave Trade Against Humanity.

In a historic victory for African and Caribbean diplomacy, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution today formally recognizing the transatlantic slave trade as the gravest crime against humanity. The push was led by Ghanaian President John Mahama, who argued that the legacy of chattel slavery continues to fuel global inequality and climate breakdown. The resolution, backed by 123 countries, calls for formal apologies and a framework for reparations. The United States and Israel were among the three countries that voted against the resolution, with the U.S. citing concerns over retroactive moral judgments and current policies targeting cultural institutions.
