Kenya’s Climate Whiplash.

Following the official 2025 inauguration of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD), Egypt has issued a formal protest to the UN Security Council this week. Tensions spiked on March 24 after Ethiopia announced plans for three additional dams on the Blue Nile, costing $3.5 billion each. Egypt, which relies on the Nile for 98% of its freshwater, has labeled the move an existential threat and an illegal violation of international law. Analysts warn that this water war is shifting from a diplomatic dispute to a significant regional security risk.
