The "Lobito Corridor" Nears Operational Readiness.
One of the most ambitious transport projects in a generation—the Lobito Corridor—is hitting critical infrastructure milestones this month. This rail and port network connects the mineral-rich "Copperbelt" of Zambia and the DRC to the Atlantic port of Lobito in Angola. Reports from the Infrastructure Africa 2026 summit in Cape Town indicate that key segments are now entering the final "operational readiness" phase. This will slash transit times for critical minerals (copper and cobalt) from several weeks to just a few days. The corridor isn't just for mining; it has begun attracting investment for "Agri-hubs" along the tracks, allowing small-scale farmers in rural Angola and Zambia to access international markets for the first time.
