Scarcity Of Water Under Fire.

At the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union held in Addis Ababa, leaders officially adopted the theme for the year. Assuring Sustainable Water Availability and Safe Sanitation Systems. The theme acknowledges that water scarcity is a primary driver of conflict and migration. The AU is now prioritizing integrated water resource management to boost agricultural productivity and energy security. The summit saw the election of a new AU Chair, with outgoing chair João Lourenço (Angola) emphasizing the need for faster implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area. Alongside water, the AU officially adopted a Continental Green Hydrogen Strategy, aiming to position Africa as a global leader in clean energy exports to Europe and Asia.
