The 2026 Spring Festival travel season (Chunyun) is on track to be the busiest in human history. To boost happiness and spending, the government officially extended the New Year holiday to nine days. This led to a staggering forecast of 9.5 billion passenger trips over the 40-day travel period. A fun new social trend has emerged where instead of children fighting the crowds to go to their rural hometowns, parents are traveling to the big cities (like Shanghai and Shenzhen) to visit their kids. At the start of the year, Chinese tech firm XPeng wowed crowds with its Land Aircraft Carrier a modular car that carries a two-person flying drone in the trunk. The company announced it is moving toward commercial production later this year, aiming at the low-altitude economy for luxury hobbyists.
