A Hidden World Found In A Hunan Quarry.
While most news is about the future, Chinese scientists just made a massive discovery about the very distant past. In a small quarry in Hunan Province, paleontologists recently revealed a treasure trove of over 100 new species that survived a mass extinction event 512 million years ago. Unlike most fossils, these specimens are so well-preserved that you can see their eyes, guts, and even individual nerves. Among the finds were radiodonts strange, spiny, stalk-eyed creatures that were the terrors of the ancient ocean. The site is being called the Burgess Shale of the East and has become an overnight sensation for science enthusiasts in China.
