Return Of The Majie Quyi Folk Fair.
While the big cities look to the future, the Majie Quyi Fair in Henan Province just celebrated its 700th year on March 1, 2026. It is one of the most unique and organic festivals in the country. Thousands of folk artists ballad singers, storytellers, and clapper-talk performers converged in a single village to perform in the open air. It’s an intangible cultural heritage event where artists compete for the title of the king of storytelling. Locals and tourists alike sit on the ground to listen to ancient tales told with modern wit. Despite the early March chill, the fair serves as a massive communal celebration of Dragon Raising its Head (Longtaitou), marking the official start of the spring farming season with traditional haircuts and dragon-themed snacks.
