Record Breaking Spring Festival Migration Begins.
As of, February 4, 2026, China is entering the peak of the Chunyun (Spring Festival travel rush), which is officially being called the largest annual human migration in history. Air China announced today that it will operate over 70,000 flights during this 40-day period a 10% increase over 2025. Total trips across all forms of transport are expected to hit a staggering 9.5 billion. This year’s rush serves as a major commercial debut for China's home-grown C919 narrow-body jets. Nine of these aircraft have been deployed on high-traffic corridors between Beijing, Chengdu, and Xi'an to showcase domestic aviation progress to the millions of travelers. To handle the volume, major hubs are debuting "Smart Gates" that use facial recognition for 60% of departures, significantly cutting down the time travelers spend in lines.
