Hainan Zero-Tariff Shopping Hits Record Highs.

One month after the island-wide zero-tariff policy for residents took full effect, customs officials in Haikou reported a significant boost in local consumption. Between mid-February and March 15, duty-free sales for daily consumer goods exceeded 5.3 million yuan, with over 28,000 individual shopping visits recorded. The policy allows residents (those with a local ID or residence permit) a 10,000-yuan annual quota for tax-free daily necessities, including food, beverages, and personal care products. This move is part of Hainan’s transformation into a fully operational Free Trade Port.
