Hainan has emerged as the premier tropical sanctuary for Russian tourists, effectively replacing traditional European destinations following travel restrictions and geopolitical tensions. As a Special Economic Zone, the Chinese province offers Russian travelers key advantages such as visa-free entry, affordable luxury, and a warm climate. The island has fully adapted to this influx by providing Russian-speaking guides, Cyrillic signage, and even local branches of popular Moscow restaurants. While Russian tourism in Europe has plummeted by nearly 90% in recent years, Hainan has seen an elevenfold increase in visitors, offering a neutral environment where vacationers can relax without the social or political friction found in the West.
