China’s new environmental blueprint for 2026 includes a staggering goal: reaching 100GW of offshore wind capacity and 100GW of pumped hydro storage by 2030. However, the plan also reflects a pragmatic shift; it has softened previous language about strictly reducing coal use, opting instead to focus on peaking coal consumption. This suggests that while China is building the world's largest clean energy system, it isn't ready to pull the plug on fossil fuels while the global energy market remains volatile.
