Chinese Safety App "Are You Dead?"
A Chinese safety app originally called Sileme (translated as "Are You Dead?") has gone viral as a security tool for China's growing population of over 200 million people living alone. The app functions by requiring users to check in daily; if they remain inactive for a set period, an automated alert is sent to a pre-configured emergency contact. Following its rapid rise to the top of the app charts, the developers—a small team born after 1995—are rebranding the service as Demumu for a global audience and introducing a small subscription fee of approximately $1.15 to cover rising operational costs.
