Biodiversity Rebound in the Yangtze.

A major report released in February 2026 highlights the significant recovery of the Yangtze River ecosystem following the halfway point of the government's 10-year commercial fishing ban. Scientists have recorded a dramatic increase in fish populations and a stabilized population of the critically endangered Yangtze finless porpoise. The initiative has also seen the removal of over 100,000 old fishing vessels and the restoration of several key wetlands along the riverbanks. The report indicates that while 70% of the damage was originally due to habitat loss, the current resting period is allowing for the natural regeneration of species that were on the brink of extinction just five years ago.
