The 2026 Renewable Energy Surge.
Mexico is currently undergoing a significant restructuring of its power grid, with over 2.3 GW of new renewable energy projects entering the environmental permitting phase in just the last two months. Solar power accounts for roughly 85% of the new capacity, with flagship projects like the Rincón del Arco complex in Nuevo León planning to install over 1.5 million solar panels. The state-owned utility (CFE) is spearheading a mixed-investment scheme to build 7.57 GW of renewable power by 2030, aiming for 54% state control of the national electricity supply. To ensure grid reliability, new projects are increasingly including large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS), moving the nation toward a more structural "energy transformation.
