Major Upgrades To 58 Museums And Archaeological Sites.

As Mexico prepares for the global spotlight of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) has begun a series of million-dollar renovations across 12 museums and 46 archaeological zones. Major work is underway at the Templo Mayor and the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City, as well as the Maya World structures in the south. At Teotihuacán, officials are discussing reopening the climb to the Pyramid of the Sun and reviving nighttime light-and-sound shows to accommodate the millions of tourists expected this summer. To support long-term preservation, Mexico has implemented a fee increase for foreign visitors at Category I and II sites, with the revenue going directly toward site upkeep and digital infrastructure.
