Valeriana From Ealy Maya Discovered.

Archaeologists have recently utilized LiDAR technology to uncover a massive, previously unknown Maya city in the southeastern state of Campeche. Named Valeriana, the site includes temple pyramids, enclosed plazas, and a sophisticated reservoir system. What makes this discovery particularly striking is its location hidden just beneath the jungle canopy near a major highway. This find, along with recent excavations in Ucú, Yucatán, is challenging the long-held belief that complex Maya urbanism only developed in later periods. It suggests that highly organized, densely populated societies were thriving in the Mexican lowlands much earlier than once thought.
