A diplomatic stir has emerged following reports that the United States has been redirecting Swiss payments intended for F-35 fighter jets to cover the costs of Patriot air-defense systems. This move appears to circumvent a previous Swiss payment freeze on the Patriot system. The maneuver has raised questions in Bern about military procurement transparency, especially as Finance Minister Karin Keller-Sutter met with her UK counterpart this week to discuss broader financial cooperation and the finalization of an enhanced Free Trade Agreement that would finally include services and digital data.
