Push for Nuclear Revival.
The Swedish government is making a major push to modernize its energy sector, announcing new legislative efforts this week to streamline the construction of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs). Developers have officially submitted applications for a new SMR campus in Valdemarsvik. These reforms aim to lower regulatory hurdles and provide state-backed loans (totaling approximately SEK 220 billion) to establish up to 5,000 MW of new nuclear capacity along the Swedish coast to meet rising fossil-free electricity demands.
