Council Government Efforts Insufficient.
Sweden's Climate Policy Council released its annual report on Thursday, delivering a "harsh" critique of the current right-wing government. The independent agency accused the government of taking "detrimental" steps—such as cutting petrol taxes and reducing biofuel blending requirements—that have pushed Sweden further from its 2030 and 2040 climate targets than ever before. Interim Climate Minister Johan Britz rejected the criticism, pointing to the government's "historic" commitment to nuclear energy and streamlined permits for fossil-free projects as the true foundation for long-term success.
