The Successor-Designate to the North.
While South Korea focuses on technology, its intelligence services are closely monitoring a historic political shift across the border. On February 12, the South Korean National Intelligence Service (NIS) informed lawmakers that Kim Jong Un’s daughter, Kim Ju Ae, has officially entered the successor-designate stage. Previously described as being in training, the 13-year-old is now being given a more formal role ahead of the upcoming Workers' Party Congress. North Korea has declared 2026 a year of transformation for its military. South Korean officials are preparing for increased diplomatic pressure as Pyongyang seeks to codify new maritime boundaries that could heighten tensions in the Yellow Sea.
