The 21.6 Trillion Won Semiconductor Giga-Fab Expansion.

To secure its position as the world's semiconductor hub, SK Hynix announced a massive new investment in February 2026 for its Yongin cluster. An additional 21.6 trillion won ($15 billion) is being funneled into building five new clean rooms to meet the global explosion in demand for AI-specific memory chips (HBM). This project is a core part of the national plan to increase semiconductor self-sufficiency to 50% by 2030 and capture 10% of the total global logic chip market. The Bank of Korea recently raised its 2026 growth forecast to 2%, citing these unexpectedly strong chip exports as the primary engine driving the national economy.
