Seoul’s Dominance In The Arts Market.

A new report released today by the Seoul Economic Daily highlights a growing disparity in South Korea's cultural landscape. While the national arts market is expanding, the Seoul concentration is reaching critical levels. Data shows that the Seoul metropolitan area (including Incheon and Gyeonggi) now accounts for 82.7% of all performing arts revenue in the country. While the National Museum of Korea in Seoul saw a 71.5% surge in visitors last year, many regional museums in cities like Daegu, Jeonju, and Jeju reported declining numbers. The Ministry of Culture has responded with a new project titled This Is Coming to Our Neighborhood Too, designed to subsidize high-quality performances in non-metropolitan regions to bridge the gap.
