Samsung Electronics Workers Approve 18 Day Strike Plan.
In a historic move, unionized workers at Samsung Electronics have voted to authorize a strike that could last up to 18 days starting in late May. The vote, which involved approximately 90,000 union members, centers on a dispute over performance bonuses. Employees are demanding a profit-sharing system similar to that of rival SK Hynix, which allocates up to 10% of operating profit to staff. Industry analysts warn that a prolonged walkout at the world’s largest memory chip maker could severely strain the global semiconductor supply chain, particularly as demand for AI-specific hardware continues to surge.
