Legislation Passed to Combat Ticket Scalping.
In a major win for cultural consumers, the National Assembly formally implemented a set of legislative amendments on February 6 aimed at ending ticket resales for concerts and sporting events. The new laws, which update the Public Performance Act and the National Sports Promotion Act, impose stiff penalties on violators, including fines of up to 50 times the original ticket price. The move follows a surge in skyrocketing resale prices for K-pop world tours, where tickets for some major groups were reportedly being listed for over 15 million won (~$10,000). Previously, enforcement focused only on the use of automated macro software, but the new law prohibits all forms of scalping regardless of the purchase method. The government estimates that this aggressive crackdown will weaken an underground resale market currently valued at more than 100 billion won annually, ensuring fairer access for fans.
